Remove the appearance of sharp racial differences
from "Othello" and the difference in the play is so striking
that it makes you wonder how may other stories have been distorted in
our imaginations by our historical obsession with race.
D.J.R. Bruckner - NY Times
In a period when just about everyone producing
Shakespeare seems driven to update, rethink or modernize, it's actually
quite refreshing to see a version that mostly withstands the temptation
to tinker.
Les
Gutman - CurtainUp
Bank's direction is clear, effective, thoughtful and thought-provoking.
He's given us an Othello to reflect upon, and in this day and age that's
no mean achievement.

Joel de la Fuentes Iago holds the dark hearts of the audience
enthralled.

Othello & Shakespeare Online
The web has MANY resources for further study of Othello and William
Shakespeare. Listed below are just a few found on a casual search:
Complete text of the play:

Clicknotes - user-friendly hypertext study guides for Hamlet, Othello
and the Scottish Play. It is a subscriber service (and with all the
free sites out there, I can't imagine why you would subscribe), but
there is a free online version:

There have been at least 27 different versions of Othello made on film
or video. There is update of Othello in post-production with a teen
cast set in a high school!? A complete list is available from imdb.com,
the definitive online movie resource:

The Japanese Tsukuda Company trademarked the name Othello for a variation
of the English game Reversi, which in turn may have roots in the ancient
Japanese game "Go," which may have originated in China or India. If
you do a web search for Othello, the bulk of what you find will be references
to this game. FAQs from the International Internet Othello Association
